Gum disease is a serious matter and the lead cause for tooth loss in adults in the UK. Gum disease can occur for a number of reasons, but the rule remains the same: the sooner it is identified and treated, the better.
Periodontal Treatment
Periodontal disease (gum disease) is the number one reason for tooth loss in adults. The primary cause is bacteria and plaque build-up which, left untreated, can lead to inflammation of the gums and destruction of the bone in the jaw that support your teeth. In time, and if the bone continues to degrade, teeth will become loose and eventually fall out or need to be removed. In addition to the loss of teeth, gum disease can also have a wider effect on other aspects of your health and is of particular concern to those suffering from cardiovascular disease or diabetes.
Our ethos here at Aspire Dental and Facial Aesthetics is based on prevention rather than treatment. The best way to prevent periodontal disease is to follow an effective oral hygiene routine that has been designed and recommended by our in-house hygiene therapist, in addition to regular visits to your dental team for a thorough clean and assessment. However, if periodontitis is already present, we are able to employ a range of treatment options to resolve (gingivitis) or stabilise (gum disease) symptoms. If you suffer from bad breath, wobbly adult teeth, red, puffy or bleeding gums or sensitive receding gums then do not hesitate to get in touch.
